SereneDB is building the world’s first distributed, real-time search database — bringing search and analytical processing together for blazing-fast performance and eliminating data duplication. We aim at revolutionizing the traditional search space, by providing consistent search experience with frequent updates and a postgres-compatible layer for ease of use. Our mission is to provide an easy-to-use unified search and analytics solution to change the way applications store and retrieve their data.  And yes — we’re open-sourcing our core technology.

Responsibilities

Quality First

  • Write comprehensive tests with coverage validation
  • Enforce correctness using sanitizers, fuzzing, and static analyzers
  • Benchmark rigorously – from low-level functions to end-to-end competitor comparisons
  • Profile systematically to identify and optimize bottlenecks and critical paths

SOTA Search Engine -- build the fastest, most flexible search engine

  • Implement cutting-edge compression & aggregation
  • Integrate vector search for hybrid full-text and vector queries

RocksDB Optimizations - redefine storage efficiency for search & analytics

  • Design disk and memory layouts for hybrid workloads
  • Tune compaction, caching, and transaction handling

Optimize analytical query performance through tight Velox integration

  • Wire Velox’s execution engine to SereneDB’s storage & search
  • Optimize query planning & vectorized execution

Postgres Compatibility -- make SereneDB feel like home for Postgres users

  • Extend Postgres wire protocol support
  • Extend Postgres SQL dialect support

Requirements

Requirements:

  • BS in CS and at least 3 YoE or equivalent experience
  • Strong algorithmic and systems programming skills
  • Solid expertise in modern C++
  • Collaborative mindset — you’re not just brilliant, but also easy to work with
  • Fluency in the English language

Bonus points:

  • Experience with RocksDB, Velox or Postgres
  • Contributions to open-source databases or search engines
  • Advanced knowledge of at least one of the following: network, memory and disk subsystems, concurrency
